First Grade Teacher

"And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith." Hebrews 12:1

As a child, I attended Immanuel Lutheran School in St. Charles, Missouri. There I was inspired by my Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. West, to become a teacher myself. Upon graduating from high school, I attended Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.  This education led to serving at St. Philip in Chicago and later at Redeemer in Stuart, Florida.

In 2000 I was called to serve at St. Lorenz in Frankenmuth, Michigan.  While teaching at St. Lorenz, I earned my Master’s Degree as a Reading Specialist from Saginaw Valley State University.   Additionally, I have received training in teaching students with dyslexia from the Michigan Dyslexia Institute and the June Shelton School and Evaluation Center, and I am a member of the International Dyslexia Association and the International Literacy Association.

My over 30 years of teaching have taken me from Chicago to Florida to Michigan and now to Dallas.  I have had the privilege and joy of educating students from Preschool to Second Grade and serving as an Early Childhood Director and a Reading Interventionist.

My passion is teaching young children to read.  It is thrilling to see that door open for them.  I also enjoy partnering with parents in guiding their children in their learning: spiritually, socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. I strive to provide each child with individual understanding and guidance to grow to be the person God has created him/her to be.

My husband, Scott, and I have one son, Nicholas, of whom we are extremely proud.  We enjoy traveling and watching movies together.  I like to read, and explore nature and art.

"Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You." - Dr. Seuss
